Just sharing an article about how King explores the psychology of bullying so effectively in Carrie that it can be used for anti-bullying campaigns.
I watched the original again after watching this.
It’s not that good. It’s almost a soft core porn, with acting to match. The ending scene was impressive for the time, but it doesn’t really hold up.
The remake is amazing. It’s well written, it’s relevant, and it’s thoughtful. Very eager to see how they expand the story beyond the prom.
Wild. I went back and watched the 1974 movie and loved it. The lighting was great, the character blocking was great, the general atmosphere was fantastic. Literally my biggest critism was that they should’ve fleshed out Tommy more tbh.
They do in the remake. He personally befriends Carrie and asks her to the prom himself, without his girlfriend’s cajoling. His death is rather sad.

All the characters are better developed. Flanagan is someone to watch. I didn’t think much of his movies, but Midnight Mass really caught my attention.
Ooooh, okay I thought you meant the new show that just came out when you said remake.
I thought the 2013 one was very mid. I agree that the characters are definitely better (outside of the mom who I thought was more of a caricature in the new one) but otherwise it felt like they tried to “marvel”-ize it.
Now when Carrie is doing her telekinesis stuff she has to move her hands around like a superhero. The lighting was much flatter. The character blocking was a lot weaker (most noticable in the “why didnt you tell me scene” at the start and the ending confrontation with the mother. In the original the character “in charge” is literally standing over the other as a show of power and it really displays to the audience what is happening while the remake has them constantly eye level to eachother).
Ive heard good things about the TV show but I haven’t gotten to it yet. Im very curious to see how it expands on the story when making it an entire season.
Edit: also worth noting that his asking Carrie to the prom is his GFs idea in the 2013 version as well but they do make it clear that he agrees with that decision which is a big improvement IMO.
Also forgot to mention that Billy is an asshole in the 1974 version but in the 2013 version hes comically evil which makes him far less believable as a character and turns it into silly territory.
I have not seen the 2013 remake. I’m sure it was mid, as I never heard of it.
After you watch Mike Flanagan’s remake and decide you love it, which you will, then watch Midnight Mass.
Lots of the same actors. He’s building a troupe, and I’ll go wherever they go. 😗👌
Ooooh im just confusing myself. The guy in the image you posted looks so much like the guy from the movie that I mixed things up again lmfao im so sorry
2013 is the Baby Driver kid. It has a 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. 2026 is 85%, but I’d give it a 95%. I think that’s because it’s more political and socially relevant, making it divisive for all the chudbuckets.
The Mom in New Carrie is QAnon coded. Brilliant character acting.
