Three other countries, Italy, France and Greece, also objected to the statement.

I mean, there is no such thing as ‘associate members’ rn so I kinda understand where they’re coming from rationally… Although I would be fine with just ‘member’ for that matter.

The thing is that the EU needs reforms and additional members will just make them even harder. The expansionism of the past has definitely caused problems for us. I think it’s fair enough to be at least a little more cautious than before

The label had earlier triggered the ire of Donald Trump, the US president, who called the idea “laughable” in September, and threatened to impose “very heavy tariffs” on the EU for what he deemed a “hostile act.”

This is reason enough to go ahead and do it. Anything that fucks off that orange skin suit is a good thing.

If mingling words is all it takes to shut that idiot up I’m for it tbh.

Actually going back on it would be dumb however, I am tired of the EU going so easy on the US.

I am too. Diplomacy works in a diplomatic world, we are no longer in a diplomatic world when it comes to the US and Russian regimes. Treat them with the same energy they give, and ignore their threats and hissy fits.
