U.S. District Judge David O. Carter of Los Angeles just concluded a 3 1/2 hour hearing (minus recesses) in the…
So like… I read this as a performative objection.
Based on the actions of the judiciary throughout the US, at basically all levels, the only conclusion I can draw is that the current judicial culture and overall makeup has two fundamental, structural flaws, and they’re both ideological:
- a strong majority (really, most, considering how the GOP has been stacking the deck for decades) of the population of judges in the US judicial system are shamelessly ideologically aligned with the fascist party.
- the smaller population of judges who are not aligned with the fascists (or even overtly against them, which I actually do not think is a controversial position for a judge to take in this day and age - or ever, really) don’t seem to have the stones to fully exercise the power of the bench in anything even approaching the same way the fascist-aligned members of the judiciary are.
I’ll believe the judicial branch is worth more than a box of Kleenex when I see them fucking do anything to stop the progression of fascism.
Republicans have been stacking the court for decades by not filling positions when Dems have the ability and jamming in conservative shills when Republicans have the ability. This was done throughout all levels of the judicial branch well before they did it to SCOTUS.
