Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s former opponent in the U.S. Senate primary, Haley Stevens, stunned party officials Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers after Democratic tensions boiled over days before the election that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

Stevens endorsed Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him. The remarkable show of support for Donald Trump’s backed candidate in the tightly contested race comes after she was uninvited to a joint event the same day with El-Sayed, who defeated the congresswoman by a slim margin in the August primary.

“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said video announcing the endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

Never Say Never. It’ll be incredibly tough cuz obviously we’re never going to have the financial backing that let’s say the Tea Party did. But it is possible to take over a party from inside. And in American politics it’s pretty much your only option, barring that massive funding like I said.

I don’t disagree. In many other situations, I do prefer to push from change from inside. In this case, tho; I feel my resources are better spent toward organization that might replace it. I certainly won’t fault you for making a different decision, but the DNC has either ignored, insulted, or attacked me and the people I care about enough that it feels irredeemable to me. Tho, maybe in the future them (or persons like yourself) will convince me otherwise.

Will do note, I never said anything about it having to be a peaceful takeover necessarily.
