Discovering nearly one thousand local privilege escalation vulnerabilities consumed $1.2 million USD in API credits.

    😅

How can you talk? You’re a sandwich! Clearly these bugs run deeper than we thought…

it’s a bit odd how openai’s blog post makes it sound like security bugs in Linux fall in two categories, info leak and local privilege escalation. i would guess that they probably did also ask their model to find some RCEs, but they’re selling those to exploit vendors (or perhaps to intelligence agencies directly?) rather than blogging about fixing them.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
