Won’t happen due to index funds. If they get approval to be publically listed, a bunch of index funds, as a condition of the financial security package they’re selling, will be forced to buy stock to keep their index aligned with the overall market positioning.
It’s basically the Space X scam all over again with the large brokerages in on it knowing that it’s primarily consumer investors who dropped money into these index funds. The intention is to keep adding a bunch of shitty companies to the market so that the actual big name traders can use it to siphon off the huge glut of wealth in those index funds into their wallet by selling shares at massively overpriced values that they know won’t hold up.
It’s more than SpaceX and Anthropic. The entire market is financial mutually assured destruction. Anyone who has any sort of invested savings pretty much relies on the index funds in some way. If we eat the rich, we don’t get to walk away happy with full bellies. We’re going down with them.
Most of the stocks in an IPO are purchased by investment firms or large corporations - so it’s extremely uncommon to have no willing buyers.
The IPO price usually also allows for a pretty decent discount on the projected valuation. So, those big investors are looking to get in early and get as cheap as they can. So for something like this, there will be buyers.
That said, entertaining the hypothetical where no one buys: the IPO is likely canceled, in the most hilarious embarrassment in a good while on the market. If just a fraction of the expected shares were sold, they may be subject to a mandatory refund. Then the company can regroup and try again later, or just take the embarrassment and go.
So like what happens if people just don’t but the stocks
