Yeah I glanced over the article in search of a legal reason for the prohibition and it’s not really talked about. The concerns raised by the protestors further in the article seem to have more legal ammunition. Really strange.

Based on what has it been prohibited?

There is still hope for the 11 series. It all comes down whether MTE support will be confirmed or not. I expect we will have an answer in a couple months.

They aren’t shipped with GrapheneOS because the developers of GrapheneOS explicitly don’t want this. They dont want any possibility of some backdoor caused by the manufacturer to bring down their reputation.
It not being shipped with GrapheneOS is on purpose.

The 9a/10a models should be around that price new. You’ll have an easier time finding something refurbished or used though.

The OEM install is the default ROM and anything else is a custom ROM. Vanilla AOSP would also be considered custom in this situation.

Many resellers are honeypots from the government that implemented backdoors. That’s why.

The GrapheneOS developers have been publicly saying that there are plans to support lower tier models in the future.

Same here, bought a Pixel 9 Pro XL couple months ago because I just couldn’t wait any longer. Glad I did.

I really hope that the Graphene developers pointed out to Motorola that this price point would not sell that well to their community, so that it would be expected. From what I understood, there are already plans to support lower models in the future too.

Same here with the 9 Pro XL, got it refurbished couple months ago, my previous Motorola phone was starting to give up and I just couldn’t wait anymore. I’m glad I didn’t wait.

What phone are you currently using?
The plans with Motorola are going further than this model, from what I understood future cheaper models will start supporting GrapheneOS too. They just started with the flagship and will probably start working downwards until it wouldn’t be economically feasible to have all the necessary security features incorporated in the phone.

Same but bought a refurbished Pixel 9 Pro XL

No, but Google is showing more and more stubborness with their future Pixels so GrapheneOS wants to make sure that they have an alternative manufacturer. The Pixel 11 series is still not supported by Graphene due to it not have MTE support yet.

I don’t watch TV but I read the news on the news websites on my phone.
If I wouldn’t have a phone I would subscribe to a newspaper.

When is it considered “tight” and when is it considered “loose”?

Oh right

The point they are trying to make is that an ubersecure phone with GrapheneOS will have a certain target demographic.
Among that target demographic SD card slots have a demand.
Me personally I would say that private votes are better if possible. But you should be able to filter when you’re logged in what you upvoted and downvoted. That’s how I would like it ideally.
