  • I’ve received very little help from healthcare professionals unless it was something obvious. Like I have an infection, I need antibiotics, then they give me antibiotics. I have something that needs to be cut off, they cut it off. Basic stuff. Anything more obscure I either ended up having to wait it out or deal with it permanently. They don’t listen. They don’t send me to the right places. The PT they sent me to appeared to do the bare minimum and never replaced one of the two different PTs I saw when they had to go on extended leave. I just stopped having both appointments each week. I always feel like I’m being rushed through a checkout line when I’m talking to a healthcare professional.

My mom told me once that you have to be EXTREMELY persistent to get anything done healthcare-wise. And that’s totally true. It’s also totally fucking unacceptable.

Seems like here in the U.S. you can only get real help if you show up dying to an ER. Seems like that’s when you get access to ACTUAL professionals. Cuz I’ve known people who have been in those situations and they appear to actually get real, dedicated help. I’ve never experienced that though.
