121·14 hours agoThe Arab parties’ 18 seats is the biggest game changer. The Netanyahu block will obviously never partner with them
It’s more that the Arab Parties would be deeply reluctant to partner with them. But that hardly matters when Gadi Eisenkot is IDF to his bones, and fully in favor of ethnic cleansing of Arabs.
The biggest problem you’ve got is Itamar Ben-Gvir picking up and changing sides, on the condition he gets to keep massacring school children

World News@lemmy.world•Lula is declared winner of Brazil's election as Bolsonaro rejects resultsEnglish
23·15 hours agoYou Americans better fucking vote like the Brazilians.
Brazilian voting is mandatory.
And their mandatory voting system has routinely produced far right governments.

2·15 hours agoElectronic voting is such a liability for exactly this reason
Gotta go back to the old tried and true Butterfly Ballot system. That never fails.
Pen/pencil and paper. Much more secure.
Nothing in the election machinery prevents a candidate from claiming fraud.
Certainly, nothing about pen and paper ballots prevents disreputable agents from stuffing ballot boxes or just refusing to count opposition votes entirely.

Technology@lemmy.world•It Appears That the AI Bubble Has Just Burst in ChinaEnglish
43·15 hours agoChina has vastly more energy capacity that the US and, 3-4x what the USA has.
Okay, now look at per capita energy.
the competition around energy has been a moot point for China
That is extremely inaccurate

Technology@lemmy.world•It Appears That the AI Bubble Has Just Burst in ChinaEnglish
126·16 hours agoThe important thing is that the Chinese government took steps to protect it’s other sectors
But At What Cost?!
Also, so much of this seems to undersell the global common denominator: skyrocketing energy prices.
China is getting hit earlier because they’ve relied so heavily on the Persian Gulf and Russia to date. By contrast, the US - a major energy exporter - can remain insulated (and even reap a fat dividend) as their energy export values balloon.
AI is voracious for energy, so Chinese data centers got hit faster and harder than their American peers. I would not assume this rebounds the same way in the States, because the US is willing to subsidize AI development AND fossil fuel consumption in a way China is not.

1·3 days agoRefugees fleeing the Middle East and Ukraine after decades of war have become an agitation point for easily gulled Finnish isolationists.

0·4 days agoI have hope that Finland will do something about it.
The current government is fully JD Vance tier corporate drones. National Coalition Party parallels Bolsonaro’s PL with its regard for environmental issues. They are only interested in getting their fellow empty-suit fuckwits bigger salaries, at the expense of everyone else in Finland. The only thing they campaign on is “Immigrant Invasion!” and “Communists are ruining the Country!”

That hasn’t been true in decades.
What are you using to calculate standard of living?
Certainly not life expectancy, education, housing, or cost of living.
