once again begs the question
Nope. Just raises it.

nonsensical to believe that the government should be handling the shipping
You don’t like the idea of a service run for people by people with open books and no profit margin? Whose policies you can direct at the polls?
Seems ideal.

Mercenary shipping is like mercenary healthcare. Sure we can pretend we don’t need it, or we can avoid it, but it never stops being a cost that eventually comes around to all of us – only with layers of profit added on.

Or the site could just show the article maybe?

So many people rediscovering the Mandatory Retirement Age.
POPs has a place as a protocol, even today. IMAPs is the norm but the right job needs the right tool.
MAPI is trash.

The bible, weirdly, doesn’t want people planting two crops in the same field.
Like, is there ANYTHING it gets right?

McDonald’s at least gets a scapegoat for killing the McRib for good. Darmok would label this “Heston, seeing Lady Liberty”

If we had everything in ansible it would be 5 minutes
Ansible at the day-job takes about 45 min to do a patch. As someone who’s used a fair number of alternatives, maybe consider anything else on the planet?
But, seriously. The response to this particular sploit wasn’t really “config management”-y. It was a simple process that cron generally handled anyway, and network segregation and firewalling allowed us to prioritize easily. My worry is that there are some core architectural decisions you may need to revisit in the post-mortem on this, because there may be some fundamental changes required to get sensible wins in the future.
(If you’re on containers, I weep for your validation challenges; also, get bazel)

Potential Linux security vulnerabilities.

there built in kneejerk
WHERE built in the kneejerk?

rebuilding internet facing servers
Because of one vulnerability?
Jebus. Response at one site was a 10-minute thing and then letting cron do the work.
Where the hell is your D-R? I worry you’ve made some very non-optimal decisions in the past and are taking on way too much work now.

it’s not like dual citizenship isn’t absolutely normal
The United States doesn’t recognize dual citizenship. When you’re naturalized, you must give up your citizenship to any other country.
Is that recent? The number of dual American citizens I know in I.T is staggering.

It’s neat how that relates so very little to voting.

So they admit it was all about scaring the peasants?

The US and Brazil do not have an extradition treaty
You mean, other than the 1961 one? It was ratified in like '64, and should still be running.

Do not talk down on me condescendingly.
I’m not reading any condescension in the comment to which you’re replying. I’m reading some suggestion that you’re misinterpreting the modlog’s message. And here I start to wonder whether you’re misinterpreting the comment to which you’re replying. And you’re admonishing the good-faith commenter in an aggressive and mildly menacing manner.
There’s a trend emerging, and it strongly suggests that a day without commenting would really help you.
That’s right. Don’t vote. Because … I give up. Did they tell you how to answer that question, or just give you a bag of roubles?
