1·2 days agoTo be fair the architecture of this place is designed to mitigate centralization and subsequent censorship under centralized networks which is unfortunately inherently political right now, this place is not immune to manipulation but also looking up at the corporate social media world and seeing how much of a problematic dumpsterfire it is underscores why these things are so important and why the Fediverse can be a good vector for politics news.
I agree though, I want more stuff and more diversity of topics and people!

…
Streamers and big networks are caving to the cultural creep of conservatism, Rose said, and “consider trans stories, trans actors and trans characters to be too specific, potentially too alienating, as opposed to just part of human experience.”
Hmmm who does this sound like?

World News@quokk.au•Trump could launch nuclear strike on Iran within days, commentator claims
3·2 days agoAlso Trump has launched multiple wars??
He is murdering people in the caribbean with missiles that cost 100 times the boat of innocent fisherman who maybe? have drugs they obliterate pointlessly are riding on.
He is rounding people up en masse with masked thugs aka ICE and thousands of people have already disappeard in the US to who knows where (we don’t know where the people in Alligator Alcatraz after it was forced to close, we genuinely have no idea).
I am not trying to be alarmist about everything, but lets get the facts straight what is dangerous about Trump is how much of a coward he is, that is specifically the least harmless part about Trump.
Why is it so dangerous that Trump is a coward, because Trump often does what he says he is going to do, TACO is fantastically dangerous for the narrative it implies that Trump doesn’t mean what he says. Project 2025 told us EXACTLY what it was, there was ZERO percent TACO to Project 2025 and I am so tired of this broken meme.

World News@quokk.au•Trump could launch nuclear strike on Iran within days, commentator claims
3·2 days agoIf I knew you, I would bet money on it. Ain’t gonna happen.
Everybody will bet money on mass nuclear war not happening, it would be illogical not to? It is a “win-win” kind of bet, either you are right or it doesn’t matter and what you bet is meaningless.
I don’t think the use of nuclear weapons is likely per say, what worries me is the incentive structure and the rapidly deteriorating lack of ability for leaders and international structures of power to protect the decency of humanity when it is easily within their material capability to do so… In my lifetime we have objectively never been closer to the use of nuclear weapons, which doesn’t mean I am sure they will be used.
Do you not worry about hurricanes or other infrequent but catastrophic events? I feel like you are trying to flatten this into I am saying the sky is falling in an absurd way and I am not, I am pointing out something we should all take seriously as an unlikely but extremely devastating possibility.
Yes, it wouldn’t make logical sense for it to happen necessarily, but you can’t claim that is the same thing as saying it won’t happen.
edit One last point, not only are we closer to the possibility of nuclear weapons being used than we have been in decades, but the nuclear powers of the world are making it abundantly clear through war and genocide that having nuclear weapons is the only way to deal on an equal footing with them… which may unfortunately be true but also the entire point of having a proactive conversation about nuclear proliferation is that the easy answer has always been to just build more nuclear weapons than your “enemy”, the problem isn’t that the strategy doesn’t work it is that it ends up with their being an unfathomable number of nuclear weapons… so yes we should absolutely take this shit seriously.

World News@quokk.au•Trump could launch nuclear strike on Iran within days, commentator claims
8·2 days agoTACO is the single most dangerous phrase/acronoymn of the last 10 years because it disastorously misunderstands the nature of cowardice.
Trump is too cowardly to back down, even when it is directly in his best interest, yes he does back down all the time but plenty of times he loses against his ego and shoots himself in the foot anyways.
Have you ever read about how Trump pathologically cheats at golf? He is not a normal person and his tendency to TACO is a gargantuan escalation risk.

19·2 days agoLet me be clear, Tucker Carlson is a racist (including antisemitic AND islamophobic/racist towards arabs), sexist, transphobic dirtbag who brings down the value of the entire human race by existing.
That being said, the establishment lets Tucker Carlson say things with a prominent platform that the center of US society only lets far right extremists fascists say. That is what is so supremely dangerous about Tucker Carlson, he speaks to unspoken truths but he does so only with hate.

22·2 days agoNahhh… Even Trump isn’t that dumb.
Wher is your evidence of this? How about Stephen Miller?

Except clearly it is in cases unlike the Palestinian Genocide where much of the threat is hyperbolically extrapolated from flimsy propaganda and thus yeah it isn’t that fruitful.
This article is in refernce to war (not a genocide) and the ways in which even small details can accidentally blow the cover of much larger things.
