It’s not a majority of all Americans, but murder of Iranian civilians and Gazan civilians does break through to many people not on a 24/7 propaganda loop. That mattered in 2024 as it mattered in 2026, to obviously different outcomes.

I actually thought about this the moment I saw all the state wins. Everyone around me completely fixated on Congress and forgot how important state politics are.

True enough. There was a spoiler worth about 2% which is a bigger deal. In any case, I learned they don’t even really have a recount procedure so it’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Living in CA, I’m used to the latter; conservatives use propositions to pass bullshit, since they can’t get elected themselves. It often does get overturned in democratic courts, though not always.

Yup. Agree, especially in regards to Biden and Dems being ineffective; it’s kind of weird to hope Trump set a new standard for what happens when a Dem takes office because I very much do not want to see ineffective leadership like that again.

Also, I have a close friend in Missouri and he expressed a similar sadness about that. I hope you and him are mistaken, but I know how short term memory voters have. None the less, there are Democrats everywhere, other states are a nice reminder of that.

Of all times for this to even happen… I check, and it’s literally still within 10 to 100 votes different between a Dem getting elected senator there.

I hope this gets all the investigations needed. Mississippi Blue fucking turned out and if they won, they deserve to be up there with the likes of Kansas, South Carolina and Texas.

To be fair, Trump made overnight changes; this has just been one of the least active Congresses in the history of the county which includes ignoring violations. Basically being effective by being ineffective.

But I’m with you on this one… between Senate filibuster and presidential veto, they go back to the whine approach we’ve had in the past. I hope not, but I’m not quite as enthusiastic as others. (But I am excited to see state legislation change for once, that might have long term ramifications!)

At least with a decent majority, they won’t have to rely on Turek (or the other transphobes) on every vote, so you may still see some gains for trans rights at the national level. It also helps that some house races came out very pro-trans, so these issues may be taken up seriously at committee and even without a majority there can be some vote trades to get better civil right protections for trans folk.

So yeah, take what you can get- it’s still a great night.

Out of the loop, I checked and yes, you’re right. Fyi for others, it’s the Voter ID law. It’s harder to remove now, basically.

If I had to pick two, you still got something big to celebrate. And if today is any indication, Voter ID laws couldn’t stop this tsunami.

I don’t like him, but the good news is a big enough lead means we don’t need him on every issue (trans rights, cough cough) and can trade that with other tight issues with other senators who might have to avoid a vote that hurts their state but it’s a greater good.

This was a bigger surprise than Texas for me (and how is Mississippi tied right now? Lol) but it’s just extra. They won’t be the progressives (or even liberal) we need but even a red dem in a seriously red state is a useful step in chipping away the GOP dominance I’ve lived with my whole life.

But I only say that knowing we don’t even need their vote, probably. Just gives Dems more leeway.
