Hell yeah. Stop construction until the matter is resolved, please.
(Last time I looked at it this was not the case)
Fucking multinationals, esp. US tech, expect to get the same treatment as they do in the most unregulated countries, local law be damned. They’re not stupid, they’re doing this on purpose. Fines + legal costs always smaller than (potential) profits. The only gamble is taking it to court eventually, and I suspect they think it’s a safe gamble.
I have no idea what sort of people get recruited to such companies, and how. But I’d assume they are expected to be 100% loyal to the company, plus going the extra mile. And all ethical concerns go through the company’s lawyers first. I don’t think anybody sees fucking with the law as a personal perk.
Is that what you meant?
BTW & TIL:
Google has signed a letter of intent with Fortum regarding the development of new nuclear power and announced plans to build new data centers in Kajaani, Vaala and Muhos. (…) President Donald Trump criticized the project and stated he “wants them to change their thinking.”
Lol. To think that evil Google is actually less evil than Trump.
BTW, Tuike has been Google’s daughter for a long while now; I still remember public backlash from building the datacenter in Hamina almost 2 decades earlier. And they pulled the same shit before:
In 2018-2019, Google’s subsidiary Tuike logged a total of 1.3 hectares of forest for which it did not have a licence.
Hell yeah. Stop construction until the matter is resolved, please.

Trying to imagine the intricacies of their recruiting for Tuike the local project company. Do they sell ‘move fast and break laws’ as a perk?
