Right now I wonder if construction is/remains stopped until the matter is resolved. That would really show them to stop messing with local law.
edit: it looks like this is the case ✊ - for how long though.

Hell yeah. Stop construction until the matter is resolved, please.
(Last time I looked at it this was not the case)
Fucking multinationals, esp. US tech, expect to get the same treatment as they do in the most unregulated countries, local law be damned. They’re not stupid, they’re doing this on purpose. Fines + legal costs always smaller than (potential) profits. The only gamble is taking it to court eventually, and I suspect they think it’s a safe gamble.

Adding insult to injury:
The US-based company operates an AI training platform named Outlier, which employs more than 900,000 “freelance” workers.
Or rather more injury to injury.
Thanks noyb, we really need to stay vigilant. It’s clear that US companies have almost no oversight at home, and expect the same to be the case everywhere.

As of the fourth quarter of 2025, there were approximately 201.82 million people employed in the European Union.
So a fifth of the EU workforce already. Damn.

Russian-based coordinators assigned the network several targets in the region, including state-owned and private arms manufacturers, as well as other sites of military and industrial significance.
Name them! Shame them!

This community doesn’t have a title rule?
Still, wtf, OP: neither Microsoft nor Ubuntu are mentioned at all, and the headline is
Number of UK businesses in financial distress ‘at two-decade high’
Booo!

I totally agree, and thanks for new info re the “law on ethnic unity” (shudder).
I remain skeptical though.
Ah well, let’s see what he actually does. Maybe he will suprise us all and at least mention some of these things.

I’m confused; was that ever not going to happen? Seeing what we call AI developed from, who it’s being developed by, even how the thing itself works, this seems like a foregone conclusion.
Still important to say it.

All of F(L)OSS has a slop problem right now.
Everything has a slop problem right now.
I can’t even take part in any pro/contra AI-assisted coding (see, I’m trying to be polite) discussions because whenever I admit that the other person has a point, I remember AI’s political, social and environmental impact, and i’m back to nope. And I can’t separate local models from all that, not completely. Maybe in 10 years when US corporate fascism is quenched for good.

A pilot phase with 38 ministry employees kicked off last year to trial Collabora’s suite with Office documents. However, this trial was terminated when elections took place earlier this year. A spokesperson confirmed that the experiment had concluded, and would not resume again. They also confirmed that no evaluation benchmarking Collabora’s performance against Microsoft Office had taken place either.
Huh. Politically/Lobby motivated? I hope there’ll be a follow-up.
It doesn’t sound like the formatting issues mentioned were the reason they abandoned this; that bit reads like filler to me because the actual news is so unsatisfying. Im/Exporting from/to MS formats not working 100% is also nothing new. And other institutions succesfully made the switch, so this is clearly workable.

They say they lay people off because AI does the job better (59% of 97). Doesn’t mean very much.

From a purely aesthetical pov alone I’d say yes. AI always tries to produce things along normalized rules of beauty, text structure, etc.
But even if you discount all such things as opinion-based, I keep coming back to its political, social and environmental impact, since most of it does come from fascist USA, runs on its datacenters.
(and incidentally, searching for an article that breaks down such impact for, say, one vibe-coded app, proved to be impossible - all search results are about the hidden cost your company pays after publishing 😡)
And I hope it stays that way until the matter is resolved. Much better deterrent than fines.
We need to teach big multinationals that they can’t just ignore local law.
