But it won’t stop people from repeating “Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line” over and over.

An unpopular war with Iran and Trump’s expansion of executive power — two issues that grate on an anti-establishment slice of the American right — could fuel the Libertarian Party’s message of nonintervention and limited centralized authority. . .

“Some libertarians supported him thinking he was an anti-war candidate. And that’s where he’s lost them,” Brown said. “But my view and a lot of libertarians’ view is that separation of powers is very important. This president has seized way too much power in this imperial presidency.”

I’ve been saying for years that if Democrats actually want to appeal to “moderate Republicans” they should forget about the neocon wing and focus on the libertarian wing. They should be criticizing the Iran War more strongly (instead of just criticizing how it’s been conducted) and should call for things like repealing the Patriot Act (especially with Trump holding the executive and benefitting from expanded powers). But somehow it’s always the authoritarian weirdos like Zionists and transphobes who they try to appease instead.

Personally, I think they should focus on mobilizing the base instead of trying to appeal to the right. But if you are gonna appeal to the right, you should be appealing to people who have some disagreements with the GOP and sometimes break with it instead of the people who are getting exactly what they want from it.

That’s like saying the Juicero wasn’t completely worthless because it did provide juice. No, they’re still entirely worthless that just happened to do something somewhat decent as a by product.

LOL, what a fitting outcome. The racist and Nat-C wing of the conservatives getting blown up by the cartoon economics wing of the conservatives…

It’s a play on nationalist conservatives. Many of them would deny being fascist like the Nazis. Despite the clear similarities. But they have embraced nationalism.

Most of them lack any academic understanding of their positions but instead rely on their daily right wing programming for the positions they believe in. Its dumb and embarrassing we let the media ecosystem get so polluted because addressing media that openly lies could be viewed as partisan.

I like to tie the talibangelicals/Y’all Qaeda types in to this phrasing, since they call themselves Christian nationalist, with no sense of shame or embarrassment. Turning this around to Nat-C ties this together nicely, along with the play on words.

Yes. It’s like they dialed up the “free market” and small government nonsense to 11. Meaning, no public services at all would be the goal. The government would just be there to enforce contracts between rational actors (courts and cops) and a supposedly reduced military.

I doubt too many Republicans would be down for something like toll roads everywhere for instance.

I’m reading The Blockers, and I’m regaining an appreciation for the quiet things that “big government” does. Like NIST. He gives a brief overview of the state of things prior to NIST and without something like NIST, we’d be so fucked. The outcome of “marketplace miracles” prior to NIST was having multiple versions of the foot and the gallon, and incompatible fire hydrants and so on.

What the Libertarians seem to believe about government is so utterly emotionally and intellectually stunted as to be cartoonish in my view.

Oh, now we love third parties huh? The GOP is an existential threat so tbh whatever takes them out is a good thing, but long term stuff like this makes democracy look stupid and that’s not good for a healthy and stable democracy, so we really need to make ranked choice a thing everywhere.

This is less about “democracy”. But more about the state building systems to undermine democracy and concentrate power.

It’s a sad state for sure that at the national level, the only thing third parties are good for is losing. But it’s just a fact of the systems that have been built. Ranked choice is a good thing regardless. But we really need to do away with or heavily reign in any office at the level of an entire state or higher. State governor, or federal Senate. Even the federal house honestly. And they’re should be no presidents to flirt with this unitary executive fascist bullshit. If we are to elect for offices, we need them to stay connected and answerable.

There isn’t an if you were honest and/or looked into it, you would see that it is inherently right wing

Here is one of the core tenets of libertarianism "Economic Liberty: Libertarians support laissez-faire capitalism, free markets, and the abolition of the welfare state, often calling for the repeal of income taxes, the elimination of regulatory bodies, and the privatization of services like Social Security. "

You are going to say that is left wing? Yo are watching free markets unfold in Argentina and here. What is left wing about it?

And don’t get into the history of it because I doubt you hold the beliefs of a 19th century French radical.

You guys are just conservatives that aren’t religious. That’s all you are.

While I agree with those tenets, I don’t think it is enforceable without strong government systems. (Not debating just justifying my personal thought on why I think it can’t be left wing)

But either way, if libertarians mostly held your views, at least you would be reasonable people that still have ethical views. Then, actual policy debates could be held. As far as I have seen, I have not encountered any left wing libertarians candidates or media spheres.

You’re not wrong, the Tea Party and Minutemen destroyed the Libertarian party in 2000s.

I think it was backlash from Ross Perot, who ran a solid third-party campaign and put the fear of God into them.

The right’s greatest trick has always been to disguise the fact that they are conservatives.

Conservatives loooove capitalism, why do you think that is? What do they even teach you in school down there?

They spent too much time drilling anti-communist propaganda into your brains and not enough time educating “y’all” on what communism and the left actually is.
