Selling off state assets, even if it wasn’t transparently just doing Trump’s bidding, doesn’t seem like something that should first be revealed when it’s “significantly advanced”.

It’s like neoliberals don’t even put up the window dressing of just doing good governance anymore.

My understanding is these are state assets that have become dilapidated due to sanctions - hence, non-essential. Privatization would inject private capital into them and revive them from their current disrepair. Strategically this could be a good move.

It could also be capitulation. I have no idea, there’s stuff happening behind the scenes that we can’t really see.

As long as the PSUV is still in control this might not end the way Russia did. This isn’t like the destruction of the USSR and the disintegration of the CPSU, in this case both the state and party are still intact. Rodríguez is not simply the second coming of Yeltsin.

But, this isn’t like China’s reform and opening up period either. While they experimented with de-collectivizing agriculture, opening up to foreign investment, and allowing private entrepreneurship they also were in a strong sovereign position instead of just having had their leader kidnapped. Venezuela is in a much weaker position to be doing something like this.

So… I have no idea. All power to the communes, free Maduro, death to Amerikkka.
