When I received this plant I was hoping it would be Amorphophallus konjac but it now looks like it isn’t as the flower occurs at the same time as the leaf whereas konjac doesn’t. The flower is also longer and has more of a drape to it.
EDIT: Identified as Dracunculus vulgaris, thanks so much everyone.
I have one to in the back garden. Didn’t know the latin name. Bought it as a ‘dragon aronchalise’ ( translated ) . The smell … On a good day i can enjoy it at my door.
Looks like dracunculus vulgaris to me
Isn’t that one of those plants you better keep your hands Off or am I mistaking it for another?
The sap can cause skin/eye irritation, and it’s poisonous when eaten, definitely would recommend gloves for handling it
Thanks a Lot :)!
belongs in the aeracae family, they contain calcium oxalate crystal, that causes the poisonious effect. same family as the taro, dumbcane, calla lily, peace lily.
Thanks to you as well!
Thank you.
@TabbsTheBat @Gnugit Exactly, should smell like carrion by now.
@Gnugit Dracunculus Vulgaris. Or, Stinky Meat Plant as we called it when we had one growing in our garden.
Thank you
Yes, that. There was some in my yard when I moved into this house and it took me a while to figure out that some animal hadn’t crawled under something and died.
But it is quite a pretty and unusual plant.
Every year when i flowers i waste some time looking for the dead rat.
Thank you.
