On Tuesday, residents of four U.S. states — Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, and Washington — will vote on whether to ban transgender athletes from organized sports. Each state has a ballot measure backed by political action committees that spearhead advertising and outreach in its favor.

Together, these committees and their supporters have spent roughly $7.5 million this year on their campaigns. Such a hefty price tag is disproportionate to the actual level of trans sports participation in the states, a new investigation from Them and The Advocate has found.

No official national count exists for trans athletes. But an analysis based on state figures suggests that total ballot campaign expenses have surpassed $151,400 per actual trans athlete who would be affected, Them and The Advocate found. While approximate, this figure suggests that the political significance of trans sports participation in the United States has eclipsed the scale of actual participation.

That’s a very cool photo. I thought the shadow was the actual person until I looked at what I thought was the shadow and saw color there.

I love those interviews where they interview somebody who starts complaining about trans in sport or something being their number 1 issue, and the interviewer will ask them what sports they play, and they’ll say “None”, and the interviewer will ask what sport they watch that has trans competitors in it and they’ll say “None!”, and then the interviewer asks how many trans people they meet up with each day, and they’ll say “NONE!”

“And trans people are your number 1 issue?”

    “YES!”

Sounds like a woman I went out with. At least she shared her true colors within half an hour. Unfortunately that was not the most off the wall conversation she started.

These are the exact same types of dipshits the constant playing of B-reels of the SCARAVANS!!!11 was for.

The same people that thought all those supposed migrants were going to come across the “open border” and straight to their house are applying the same level of logic to trans and sports.

An example of logic when asking them about their pearl-clutching over immigration and pushing them on their claim that “America was full” - “well, they can live in YOUR HOUSE THEN!” Also, Nancy Pelosi has a fence around her house, or something.

That level of thinking, as applied to trans: “liberals can’t even define what a woman is!”

      Checkmate, liberals!

I’m sure they’d much rather spend that money on imprisoning every single trans person in America instead.

These bigots should be in jail for wasting money on stupid shit like this, money that could have been spent on any number of worthwhile causes. We need a new offense to charge them with; crimes against society.

We don’t give salaries to any student athletes, they compete for scholarships.

That’s why this is so important to them. They want their daughters to get scholarships, which are in short supply with fierce competition.

Does anybody actually think that this is about fairness in women’s sports? Is anybody fooled into thinking that these are good faith arguments? These conservatives are the same people who have been mocking women’s sports for decades. Hell, the conservative establishment is trying to dismantle Title IX right fucking now.

No. These conservatives just think that trans people are icky and want to make their lives harder. They just learned that they can’t say that.

That and they see women in general as subhuman, and people “choosing” to be transwomen undermines their whole view of female inferiority.

It is not about sport nor has it ever been about sports. There also are not that many trans athletes and the research on trans athlete generally finds that trans women on HRT perform about the same as cis women

Some of the most vocal anti-trans advocates have said they pushed this because they saw it as a wedge to get larger anti-trans policies

There also are not that many trans athletes

The president of the NCAA said there were 10 out of 500,000, but that was before trans women were basically banned.

      deep sigh

to qualify to be a trans athlete, you have to be on progesterone for long enough that any testosterone-based advantage is long since gone and go through many invasive and humiliating and easy-to-fail-with-one-out-of-place-word “tests” to make sure they’re not “faking it” just to beat “real women” at sports, or look at “real women” upskirt in bathrooms, to say nothing of the harassment and bullying from virtually everyone in their lives and from the media and millions of people like you who have never even met them but still feel the need to tell them they’re not real women, or at least not real enough to deserve an equal chance at a scholarship that could’ve gone to one.

i’ll only say this once. no one is going through that shit just so they can get a scholarship.

no, they clearly did not. they are commenting on a third party’s thought process and there is no indication (in this comment) that they would share it.

so i suggest you take that straw man you are trying to fight and shove it wherever it causes most pleasure for you.

Sounds like they should cope and seethe if they think trans athletes are less deserving of scholarships, and sportsball is a stupid ass way to award scholarships to begin with.

Sucks you’re getting downvoted just for explaining the rationale.

I do think that is incomplete though, because that does not explain anti-trans bathroom laws that affect non-athletes and non-students.

sucks you are getting downvoted for explaining someone is explaining the rationale 😂 (i don’t in fact think it sucks, since you don’t really pay rent with lemmy votes, but it still does show there are stupid people on both sides 🤷‍♂️)
