We can’t have Jeffries as speaker
The only thing change.org petitions have ever changed are the size of change.org’s spam list. They will sell your confirmed contact info to anybody who will pay. One of the best scams the internet ever invented.
House speaker doesn’t have to be an elected member. Democrats could go scorched earth and select Obama.
Holy Shit could you even imagine Obama sitting behind 47 while state of the union.
Could you imagine the rebuttal
Don’t forget that direct action is needed, too! Contact the offices of your Congresspeople
Great idea but the time to change the leadership was during the primaries. If enough DSA/progressive candidates would have won those it would be possible now.
Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries need to go. Those two have as much charisma as an open hemorrhoid, just about as much initiative, and they’re dragging the Democratic party down like an anchor.
My wife likes Speaker Jeffries.
It’s like I don’t even know who she is anymore. It’s divorce, then, obviously.
Throwing her off a cruise ship is faster and is far less of a hassle, certainly less painful.
I’m ruining the joke by doing this, but /s.
Hmm. She’s too smart, though. And strong - like a waif in power armour - and she’d have me cart-wheeling over the railing in no time. But you’re right about the paperwork… ;-)
Drop Schumer and Jeffries, release the Epstein files
If you have a Democratic rep, petition them directly. They are the ones who ultimately make that choice.
Make sure you tell them that it’s not about getting even, it’s about upholding the law. The Supreme Court has basically said that the only check on a lawbreaking President is impeachment. I would argue that Congress has a responsibility to impeach if the President is blatantly breaking the law. The buck cannot be passed to anyone else.
I don’t. Nebraska failed to go blue. Except district two. Not my district
I feel you. Missouri as flaming red and irritated as ever. But I think we at least managed to pull off a single seat flip in the house.
i’m so sorry, i got y’all confused with mississippi. no one deserves that insult.
maybe alabama
hey, you guys rejected the abortian ban initiative. take that win!
Not just that, but also Amendment 6. An amendment for simplifying the language of ballot measures. Which our Republican legislature worded at above grad student level of reading. Not being a grad student, but being an avid reader. I was able to understand it, but I had to help a lot of family members understand it as well.
That also doesn’t mean that you can’t bring it up. Republicans are definitely going to be a little more receptive now.
Yeah, it was close but I’m still pretty miffed about it. Gage and Lancaster were pretty far blue but it wasn’t enough to offset the 30+ rural counties
I really thought Kearney, North Platte might go blue lots of jobs were lost in that part of the state with meat packing. Plus trucking is huge anywhere west of York. Diesel has to be killing them but they just keep voting for the pain. We tried
Rush Limbaugh had to come from somewhere. It’s generational, and yet “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
I don’t have time right now because I’m at work, but if anyone wants to create a petition on Resistbot, we can sign & boost it, and it will automatically send the petition to our representatives
Threaten them to not vote for them next time if they support Schumer and Hakim
They’re traditionally okay with that. Not being in power isn’t the same thing as not having power. They will happily continue to get by with less as long as the gravy train continues. Not voting has never been a threat to them. More people need to understand this.
The only thing those useless bums would see as a threat. Is being challenged in a primary for their office or seriously challenged in general. That and revolution,. But anything short of either of those and they will just happily sit in their seat taking money.
I mean picking other candidates in primary and not vote
That’s fair, and an important distinction to make.
Jeffries today: Yeah. Impeachment is not really a priority
Chuck at least had the sense to keep his mouth shut this morning about his lack of ambition. God I cannot wait for Chuck to face a DSA primary in two years.
Schumer should risign so he can spend more time with his imaginary friends the Baileys.
Jeffries is already giving up bargaining chips before he’s even sat down at the table to negotiate.
To be fair, he might be hinting at 25th. It’d be easier to go that route, I think. And this would be much more likely to get Republicans on board as well. He’s clearly getting worse at an accelerating rate. His decline is speeding up and taking him out with a 25th may come off as sympathy as opposed to revenge. And then you throw is ass in prison.
Oh shit it’s Jeffries we were talking about… Yeah, you can ignore the previous paragraph.
It’d be easier to go that route, I think.
It takes a larger supermajority than impeachment: 2/3 of both houses. The cabinet needs to sign on as well. And the president can contest the finding of incapacity and drag out the proceedings.
Doesn’t that require the consent of the cabinet? I don’t think they would ever go against Dear Leader.
So impeach them first.
They’re not really loyal. If they think JD Vance has a chance, they’ll hitch themselves to any winning chance at this point.
I’d love to see them saddled with Vance for 2 years. Even the most abject MAGA rube can tell that there’s something the matter with that creep. He radiates cynicism, condescenscion and inauthenticity.
JFC
I’m cautiously optimistic, he said we’ll let the chips fall and let the oversight committee do their job. Also that the priority is the economy, cost of living and corruption.
So in a round about way he said that if that’s where the chips fall, impeachment will happen but that it’s not going to be their top priority.
But I’ll have to see it to believe it cause these guys…ugh.

First good use of this meme in… a good while.
Ro Khanna is likely the best candidate for the job.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ro_Khanna#NO_PAC_caucus
An empty chair would be better than Hakeem Jeffries.
Omar.
And just super piss off the gop. Now they have to deal with a Muslim woman in charge. Complely unbought.
She gets zero pac money. All individual donations.
I’d love that for the gop. They would lose their shit.
Democrats would never allow that. They barely tolerate her.
Not gonna lie. He’s far from perfect, but he’s definitely solid. And best of all, someone with wide enough appeal, I could see it happening.
but he’s definitely solid
So is a bag of cement, which is equally unsuited to a leadership role.

Braydan, why do you post and then delete nearly all your comments within a day or so of posting them?
Serious question.

Well, sure, if you’re into black and white campism. I certainly don’t agree with a lot of the things he’s said or done in the past. And quite frankly, I would rather it someone else. However, it seems even if it’s far too late that he’s finally coming around to a more correct set of positions. We’re never going to get someone that we truly like as leader of a party we don’t really belong to. Because they don’t want us there. There are much, much worse, say Jeffrey’s and Schumer.

Lol are you just parroting things you’ve been told?
I find the timing of his change in stance, a little convenient if not even suspect. But not indicative of a Zionist. Unless you subscribe to wild conspiracy theories. The likes of which maga and conservatives believe.
Okay. Keep being so cringe and wildly radical that no one takes you seriously, and you get nothing done. It doesn’t bother me

He and Schumer think they won. They are much of the reason Trump is in the white (trash) house.
They didn’t win big, the guardians of pedophiles lost big.
They should put Bernie for the Senate Majority Leader. I don’t think there is a rule that says the leader has to come from the most populous political party in the chamber. It just always plays out that way.
I don’t know about that, but I do know that there’s no requirement that the Speaker of the House be a member of Congress. I’m thinking we should recruit Jon Stewart or Al Franken to be the new Speaker. Any other good ideas for Speaker?
I think Colbert is available.
Bernie’s an Independent, as you mention, I just think the Dems would have to be feeling really groovy to give away the Speakership, even to Bernie.
And one for the Senate as well.
Try this on for size.
Last night, a lot of people who voted for Trump three times voted Blue for the first time ever.
They didn’t do it because they wanted Trump out, they did it because they want oil prices down.
The GOP can drag out an impeachment fight for two years and then paint the Dems as a do-nothing Party.
I’d be happy if the Dems passed Medicare For All and named it the Golden, Wonderful Huge Donald Trump Healthcare Bill.
In two years the state courts can feast on his bones.
Fine. But Jeffries has failed so a new face to get money to Ukraine, green energy back, and abolish ICE.
Chuck is Chuck, he should step aside and ‘mentor’ a new person to show they’ve learned a goddamn thing from the voters
[Copy/pasting this from another thread because it’s important:]
Can we start talking about who we would like to see in those congressional leadership roles?
For starters, here are some potential names for Senate Majority Leader:
Corry Booker[Heard]- Elizabeth Warren
- Jon Ossoff
- Chris Van Hollen
And for Speaker of the House:
- Jamie Raskin
- Ro Khanna
- Robert Garcia
- Pramila Jayapal
Feel free to discuss pros and cons regarding any of them, or add more names to the lists. We need to have this conversation now.
[Edit: Added PJ by request]
Ugh. Not Booker. He’s just gonna be a young lively Schumer. Warren would be 🔥 but I doubt that the mainline centrist senators would go for it.
That’s disappointing :/ I had a good impression of Booker but I’ll admit I haven’t payed super close attention.
That’s why I like hearing a variety of perspectives from people who know more than I do. Can’t do a deep dive on ~300 legislators, but there’s always someone well-informed who can share an opinion.
You don’t think Warren would have the support? That’s sad, she would be awesome in the role. What about Ossoff or Van Hollen?
if they gave the top spot to Warren I would be so happy. I just don’t see a body that was perfectly happy with Schumer for (how long has it been, it feels like forever) supporting someone that far left (not like Warren is super left, but relative to the Senate, is there anyone between her and Sanders?).
Ossoff could be good. IDK much about Van Hollen.
Booker is so frustrating because he will sometimes give fiery speeches and get everyone hyped up but then turn around and vote exactly how the pharma lobbyists and APAIC dictate.

This. He talks a good game when the game calls for it, but for the most part he’s content to just let the pieces move around the board as they have been.
Man, mixed metaphors get messy.
This isn’t the same body though. Progressives are making inroads even in the Senate. Yeah it might not have reached critical mass yet, but is it enough to show some of the old guard which way the wind is blowing?
I’m starting to sense a consensus building around Ossoff. The only downsides I’ve heard so far are that he’s still relatively junior, and he might already have his sights on the presidential primary for 2028. I don’t think either of those things are insurmountable obstacles though. Plus he has charisma and backing.
I love Van Hollen. He’s honest and genuine and does his best to deliver on his promises. But yeah he’s not super well-known and that might be his key obstacle.
Personally I think it speaks to his merit, because he’s too humble to play the political game and make a name for himself. A little bit of outside support to get him in the spotlight more and he could go places.
And I hear you about Booker. I think you may be right, sadly. It’s disappointing but a lot of people seem to be seeing it the same way. Anyone know how much money he accepted from AIPAC?
I like Booker but his AIPAC ties are upsetting. Warren is always acceptable but Ossoff has been kicking ass on the speechifying lately. He’s got potential.
Yeah I’m hearing a lot of feedback on Booker, it seems he’s just another centrist, but with flair. I wasn’t aware of his AIPAC ties.
Alas.

Not as egregious as Jeffries or Schumer, but $846k is $846k
I agree on Warren and Ossoff though. Either one would do great as SML, but Ossoff could likely garner more support. I hear they’re considering him for the presidential primary, but a Senate leadership position might help him there rather than hurt him
It’s not just those 2, it’s any of the Rotating Villains. Here’s a comment i made about Dem senators when they voted against the
War Powers resolutionICE funding votes after the public executions in January https://lemmy.world/comment/22588355To summarize, it’s a failure on leadership, and the whip if any Democrats break ranks, then also those Democrats. Here’s the list from that vote:
The Senate Democratic leader is Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) The Senate Democratic Whip is Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL)
The Eight Senate Democrats/Independents who voted in favor were: Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) Sen. Angus King (I-ME) Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)
The House did not have enough votes to defeat it, and all voted against but here are those leaders too. The House Democratic leader is Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) The House Democratic Minority Whip is Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) "
May their phone lines know no peace, as ours hadn’t in the lead up to this election.
Thank you for your input. I took the liberty of cleaning up the list to make it more readable.
