I played the demo during NextFest and I will most certainly be buying the Early Access, if nothing else because it is much cheaper than the full release will be. Whether I actually play the EA or wait until 1.0 remains to be seen. And whether I am capable to decipher enough of the game to actually be able to beat said 1.0 release? Who knows.
What I do know is that the art is striking, the music banging and the writing is dense, distinctive and either poetic or lunatically gibberish (jury still out). The arcadey real-time bullet hell type ship combat is also quite fun.
That description confused the hell out of me. Guess it was just worded weird. Looked it up on Steam, looks pretty unique. What’s weird is the combat vid doesn’t look turn based? Idk.
Navigating the sea on the overwold map is turn based, but combat is indeed real time.
I’m surprised splattercat hasn’t played it yet? The description makes it seem right up his alley. You can tell from the videos he makes about them that he particularly loves twisted dystopian space looters like Quasimorphs and Ostranauts and weird, equally crunchy and mechanic-heavy scavenger shit like Roboscav and Mirklurk and they all tend to be the kind of games he’s either played a bunch even before making videos about them or games he keeps coming back to and making additional videos about. I eagerly look forward to seeing a video about it from him sooner or later.
I’m not familiar with splattercat but I’ll keep an eye on him. Would be interesting to see a crunch-experienced veteran try to figure this game out, hah.
Sorry about your wallet then, haha. :) He’s got a lot of videos and a lot of reviews. I assumed almost everyone already knew about the nerd castle. He’s a pretty prominent and prolific reviewer of indie games (about to hit 1 million subs on Youtube) with a slight but noticeable lean and appreciation for the grittier, gorier, creepier and crunchier side of indie gaming that a lot of the usual “cozy indie” communities lack. It’s a good place to be if you appreciate that kind of stuff.
