  • Yeah those doctors were raised by dismissive boomer and silent generation parents and taught by the same generations at med school. They’re largely genx (my gen so I’m very familiar with them and our attitudes), genx has largely given up and was already the grunge type gen that didn’t believe anyone about anything to start with. Add on top of that realizing as an older adult that everyone is an idiot, especially the narcissistic doctors you thought had everything under control, and they’re going to just assume everyone doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

We really should focus on training doctors to have amazing compassion, proper bedside manners, and make sure their mentors have those as well.

And as the article says, we need to address insurance problems or the issue of people having little to no access to healthcare to seek answers, and that means healthcare for all, at no out of pocket costs at the time of visits. If it’s cost prohibitive to seek answers, they won’t be sought by patients or doctors as much. As needed. And the people who run for profit insurance companies should have to pay real prices for avoidable deaths they cause in the name of denying coverage to increase profits - which likely means doing away with for profit healthcare altogether.
