5·2 days agoI recently put Graphene on my no-longer work phone. I think what makes it extra tough is that it feels familiar and simultaneously alien.
There’s an action centre, and you can edit toggles, but there are no editable sliders for audio and brightness. A lot of the icons feel like buttons but aren’t.
Then there’s the gestures. They feel a little off. The back motion can be done forward too, and there’s no preview of what “back” is. And I loathe the settings pane.
Graphene is nice, but I still dislike Android.

AI disclosure?
It it’s funny because I was sitting with figuring out a good monitoring solution for my own needs the other day. Too bad none of this actually provides any useful information.

Technology@lemmy.world•Manifestos, Fear, and ‘Loser Thinking’: Inside Proton’s AI ReckoningEnglish
16·5 days agoMore than vibe coded, this part should be concerning.
Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton, had a message for an employee in the company’s security Slack channel who urged the company to at least take a few days to pentest newly written code before pushing it live. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking. Of course it’s possible to be fast and secure,” Yen wrote in the channel at the end of August. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.”
Someone highlighted that they should take a few days to do some extra testing to ensure security. The CEO says it’s bullshit and to be less slow. That’s extremely reckless.

It’s not “how to be slower” but “how to be safer and ensure we deliver a product that holds up to what we’re portraying it as.”

Technology@lemmy.world•Denmark has abandoned plans to ditch Microsoft Office after technical problemsEnglish
1·8 days agoIt isn’t the same thing, no. The Russian alternative got forked by some EU corporation and relabeled to Euro Office. Further, it’s FOSS, so it can be truly independently audited unlike Microslop’s garbage.
I will urge LibreOffice/Collabora any day. I don’t really care for the Russian BS suite because it still adheres to Microsoft’s proprietary “open” document standards, and so long as you use that bullshit you’ll never own your own documents. You’ll always be beholden to their garbage one way or another.

Technology@lemmy.world•Denmark has abandoned plans to ditch Microsoft Office after technical problemsEnglish
2·9 days agoIt specifically says that performance wasn’t benchmarked.
The root cause is incompatibility with Microsoft’s proprietary document format causing fuckiness for LibreOffice based Collabora. E.g. formatting issues.
They could’ve tried the Russian alternative but I guess they’d prefer to gargle Microsoft’s fetid cock some more.

1·23 days agoWithout even opening the article, let me guess. Industrial farming ruins the soil and so the crop can’t absorb the nutrients because they’re just not there? Sweden@lemmy.world•Google avverkade 300 hektar skog olagligt, för nytt datacenter i Finland
Aaron Swartz. Att ha pengar betyder att du står ovanför lagen.

Sweden@lemmy.world•Google avverkade 300 hektar skog olagligt, för nytt datacenter i Finland
