Back in the day in the Roman Empire, they used a bunch of slaves to build the infrastructure and stuff, like the water systems, you know? And like, later on, those are still valuable and used as a way to just map out the way we do things today. One thing doesn’t necessarily negate the other one. Yes, it can be mass theft, and it can be an advancement at the same time.

The comparison doesn’t work, as this rat poison only gives you a tiny sensory benefit before kiiling you, while AI can be used for a lot of good, be it in the medical field, as a better way to look up information online of any kind, a way for non techy people to interact with the internet in an easier way, to provide better voice to text for people with disabilities, basic tech support or help with quicker queries, to generate mockups with image gen etc etc etc
Doesn’t seem to be the same category as “completely harmful but slightly pleasurable right before the end of it all”, and I haven’t googled, I’m sure a ton of other things would show up that are positives of AI as a technology
It’s a new tech in its infancy. is hacky Yes, it’s annoying. But the whole point of it is to make people who don’t know what they’re doing actually be more able to, you know, do things outside of their own capabilities. That is a huge improvement. Of course, you do have to have some common sense and some logic to work these tools better. To understand they are not perfect. to understand an AI can make mistakes. But I think overall people will be more productive with AI than without it.
For the security part, I think this will improve over time. For the environment? I wouldn’t be so sure. Still, AI is not gonna go away. You gotta try and take its positives, Because if you don’t, people who use AI will just walk over you. I don’t even think it can work in tech anymore if you don’t use AI.
So we’re going to just not use one of the best advancements in technology that we’ve had in like so long just because it’s used for nefarious purposes? Wouldn’t it be better to fix those issues for the AI to be controlled by just a small elite of people? What’s the solution for you? Do you think they’re gonna just get rid of AI? I think the Pandora’s box has already been opened. AI is not going away. We should find a way to just use it better. You know?
I mean I was waiting to see how shitty the apple tv neuromancer adaptation would be next year, but at this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up pushing random Timmys into becoming techies and netrunners. Life imitates art I guess.

I joined Matrix today, It’s been 4-5 hours, I’ve seen multiple other users joining aswell, asking for what client is the best one or how to do X. For sure a lil exodus is happening.

anecdotal experience tells me people who use arch break their system way more than people who use mint, not exactly sure why that happens
I use a handful of reddits, usually a few of those lewd ones for like hooking over over voice chat and stuff, kinda fun for that ig, but like as you said, most people there are kinda dumb, most conversations I have there are bland, boring, and end in a day or two at most with ghosting. (met a few cool people tho, its just like… 5% of all the ones I talk to)
I mean we are already halfway there, i had to do a thing with my mobile phone provider, i had to talk to a computer for 4 full hours before i was finally connected with a human, i think this is more likely, it will just get longer, maybe you’ll need 6 hours or days of talking to an AI and then they might connect you to a human
After all the dumb changes to reddit and surveillance in general I decided to try and look for an alternative, If I knew it was this easy to get into lemmy I would’ve done it SO much sooner. Also i think this is my first day here? And every time I posted something I got a TON of responses, like I could argue even more attention than I would get on reddit, also the responses were better? Like what? How? There’s way less users here… Just imagine if Lemmy grew just a bit more, doesn’t need to beat reddit at all, just to grow a bit more (with good users ofc) That would be insane, Im having way more fun here already, the community is so much better, the only thing im missing/haven’t found yet, is those r4r reddit-like forums where you get to meet people to dm and stuff

I’m curious on what a resistance or revolution would look like for a regular person to get involved with, with all the surveillance, be it online or your life being recorded 24/7 as soon as you go out the door of your house, like let’s for a second imagine someone IS aware and WANTS to help out, wouldn’t it be kinda impossible to do anything meaningful? Yes with enough people maybe you can do something about it, but in the real world you won’t have “enough people that care” up until the very end where shit hits the fan and everything is super duper fucked
