Yes, because Musk needs more money.

Yes, because Musk needs more money.

I’m offering up common sense. That is all.

There is science to the 100-150 people thing, in terms of memory. There are limitations to how many people you can hold in head at the same time.
That said, gathering crowds, or mobs, isn’t about that, it’s mainly rooted in common information. And that doesn’t exist any more, by intention. Every one of us in this thread has ingested different info today, this week, this year. Every single one. Now, those Venn diagrams on ingested info will have overlap, because it’s Lemmy, but even so. The lack exists. And that’s on Lemmy. Out there, off Lemmy, there may be zero overlap on ingested information.
Without common information and cause for emotional need to rise, it won’t happen.

Private jet loss would actually impact thing.

Sure, in interviews they can parse shit out, and that is a good thing, but what is the sell phrase? Whitmer won in Michigan based on “Fix the Damn Roads!” Having driven on them, I can tell you, it’s a byline that could reach every person in that state.
People are busy. They’re not reading what you read. No one is reading what you read, or what I read, that’s how fractured information dissemination is right now. We all consume different news, if any at all.
When the working class majority walk to their voting center, dragging their asses there after having worked 11 shifts in the 7 days prior, what’s the single line that’s going to make them want to spend the energy and not just collapse on their bed?
If you spew multiple things at them they’ll probably just go to bed.

This is very true. Slogans work. “We’re not going back” was stellar, but the dunbasses running Kamala dropped it.
A phrase as simple that resonates not just with Lemmy, but the middle of the bell curve people, is needed.
Republicans are really good at it. Dems, never. Too many wet cats swiping at each other and arguing about what’s most important.

Geriatric, misogynistic toddlers who also want to re-establish some of their lost ownership over women. This pesky liberation shit needs to be dialed back. 50 years is long enough, daddy’s home now.
(It creeps me out and repulses me typing that post comma part but that’s their language).

I’m not sure what type of person answers questions that come via random, not really identified text spam, but I don’t think they’re representative of the middle of the bell curve populace. Middle of the bell curve, my money is on “delete and report spam”, or, sadly, “STOP”, letting the spammers know it’s working so they get more.

It’s not that I didn’t take it seriously, but it truly is a leadership issue. The scale of the climate issue is why governments exist. But because corporate (been playing Cyberpunk and want to call it corpo) started buying up government shares in the 80s the necessary legislation never happened.
To toss another analogy your way, daylight savings is going away. The thing about that argument, sticking with one or the other because it will make winter life soooo much better, sure it will impact, but not as hard as people think. The days will still get shorter and darker in winter, that will not go away, overall, even if we stop changing the clocks.
This election is going to be the same. (Vote, definitely.) It feels like people are reaching out hands towards ballots, while drowning, expecting a save. Things will shift, yes, but I doubt it will be dramatic. Gas prices are borked, billionaires will still exist, and AI has freely collected our data while u demoing home computing. The government coffers are pilfered and the debt is even more astronomical. It’s going to be a shit Christmas for the kids this year either way. Still vote, it’s about the only handhold we have right now.

Because the average household has gone insular given the financial problems of the day. Survival mode means you’re not looking globally but inside your own “house”.
You may not want to hear that, but it’s how most people, middle of the bell curve, function.
How am I going to pay rent? How am I getting to work to pay rent? How am I going to get healthy food for my kids? How many meals do I have to skip this week so my kids can have meals? How am I going to get gas money? How many holes can these socks and underwear endure before I have to buy new ones? How long until the bandaid around the sharp edges one the safety pin holding my bra together fails?
Shit like that is dominating people’s minds? Climate? Might as well be asking about space aliens and stardust. The processing power isn’t there right now. Again, it may not be ideal to you, but, middle of the bell curve, that’s how people function.
As such, answers to the daily survival questions are coming first.
Yes, it’s all moot if the planet dies, but timeline wise most people aren’t going be able to look that far ahead of their kid is crying out of hunger right now or they’re stranded unable to get transport to work, today. They want today solved, not next year.
It’s like saying, why didn’t you get to the hospital to perform that life saving surgery when the surgeon is busy watching her shoes burn and trying to figure out how to get them off before they become one with her skin. Both things need doing, but what is closest to an individual is what that individual will be focused on. Burning footwear > surgery located elsewhere, never mind how important both things are.

So the endgame is dump and run. Wonder who will buy it, Elon or Zuckerberg.

Went over there today. There’s a top feed blurb and an autoplay ad right below it with some muted blonde girl emoting about something. The content isn’t the main feature the blonde girl with her ad is.
No one wants that. I left.

Shops with condos or apartments upstairs is already done a lot, at least it is in the states. Usually condos. I see a lot of rental type scenarios being converted to condos. So, of course, that brings the price, or the credit needed for the mortgage, out of reach for most.
I don’t understand why condos cost so much. It’s shared walls, essentially an apartment, with HOA life, so now you’re paying monthly on top of the mortgage for potential Karens in your life.

I agree, but it would skirt zoning.

Jesus Fucking Christ. How is this even a proposal on the table? The man belongs in prison for treason.

It’s never about what they can do, only what they want to do.

Because competition is bad.
This feels like that bit about Taco Bell in Demolition Man. Idk, who would win each fight?
One network TV: Warner.
One US internet access, the utility and the equipment: FCC Inc.
One social media: Meta (because Elon will get bored and Spaz will sell out, but Zuckerberg only knows how to be the asshole he is in one specific way). Probably.
Blackrock, Health and Food divisions.
One computing component manufacturer: Nvidia.
Never mind how all of the above is supposed to be illegal.

You don’t need a huge plot. The other piece is that prefabs have to have 2x6 construction to hold up on a freeway drive to the plot. Double wides and single wides are not what they were in the 70s. They’re not bad, structurally. And, you can slap them down on basements, depending on location. That scenario is very popular in the Midwest where basements are standard.
You could, quite literally, do a mobile home park style neighborhood where everyone owns. No shared walls. Skirt the zoning.
Granted, these would be far more palatable with 1 car garages and decking. The old school alley style layout with the garage facing the alley could work.
Double wides are 3 br 2ba standard with a decent floor plan. Again, slap it on a basement and you have a lot of space.
The issue is zoning tends to balk at those too.

Classic Republican. The accusation is a confession.
We attack each other instead of attacking up. Working as intended.
