For almost two years, student-led demonstrations in Serbia rallied against Vucic's right-wing incumbent Serbian Progressive Party. Protesting against alleged corruption in the government, the movement was triggered when a train station canopy in the city of Novi Sad collapsed in 2024, killing 16 people.

The student protests just started after the canopy collapse at the railway station in Novi Sad, killing 16 people and inuring one more, and the subsequent corruption allegations. The railway station was renovated by a Chinese company under opaque terms. To this day, no one is held accountable for the tragedy.
