I wouldn’t vote for Trump 3, but I cannot afford to vote for this terf piece of shit. If this fucker or somebody similar succeeds, it’s over for trans people having any sway over the Democratic party. I will push for his downfall no matter the cost. If liberals throw us under the bus in the hopes we can return to the good old days, burning the party will be the only card we’d have left play.

I agree that Newsom is a billionaire-class anti-progress piece of shit, but this seems like a “cross the bridge when we come to it” situation. Progressives have a lot of momentum right now and there’s a good chance the nominee in 2028 will be one.

Attention is power in politics. Hating him gives him power. It’s okay to critique and inform, but don’t let it consume you. That’s how trump got traction. If all we can offer to the political conversation is who sucks, then we’re going to wind up with somebody who sucks.

Focus on someone better. Who do you want to win the primary? Start extolling their virtues, spread the word. Who is an ideal candidate?

Hey, I agree that Newsom would be an absolutely unmitigated disaster, but I’d vote 3P instead. I will never vote for a Republican in any US election, ever. Lincoln himself would be horrified at what his party was twisted into, especially in its most recent iterations.

Yes, but if republicans win they’re gonna start rounding us up. The Dems can be influenced. Reps just want us all dead. One is better than the other. Not voting doesn’t send a message, it’s just surrendering to fascists.

          The Dems can be influenced.

Tell that to the trans people who wanted an ally in the UK labor party. That’s what Newsom, the New York Times, and all these other terfs want for us. It’s not a good card to play, but if we aren’t willing to make good on a threat, we have no power.

Ok but the alternative is literally just let the republicans win. Do you have a viable alternative that isn’t reforming the dem party via primaries and running progressives? Because to my knowledge that’s the only way forward that doesn’t involve system collapse which likely kills all the trans people first.

The strategy is keeping terfs from winning the primaries; not voting for them in the general as a real threat is part of that. Besides, corprocrats winning is what will kill the system more than anything. If they prevent reform like the ruling class intends, we will keep getting fascists and they will keep getting worse. If you think Trump is bad, think about what Jewish conspiracy Nazis raised on Nick Fuentes will bring. Without a genuine progressive in the next election cycle, then the Nazis are guaranteed to win in 2032 and do more than if the Trumpians win in 2028.

Ok that’s all well and good far as theory goes but practically speaking that’s not particularly useful and, again, more or less defaults to the republicans winning which is unambiguously worse materially and practically speaking. We hold the democratic party accountable by primarying incumbents with progressives and preventing republican obstructionism. Any other option accelerates the fascism with the vague hope that it’ll somehow foment a global socialist revolution. It’s not really feasible. In fifteen years the fundamentalist ideologists completely overthrew the republican party and yet you all keep arguing we can’t do the same with the dems. We could, if all of us voted in every election. It’s not too late or they wouldn’t be trying to prevent us from voting. Like I more or less agree with you philosophically but you’ve all already given up on change within the system, and that leaves the only option being total destruction of the system. Most of us die before that ever happens. Letting the worst option win is never the right call.

Without a genuine progressive in the next election cycle, then the Nazis are guaranteed to win in 2032 and do more than if the Trumpians win in 2028.

That’s silly, if they win in 28 there won’t be voting in 32. This is our last chance to avoid full fascist collapse. Republicans can never again hold enough power to obstruct a progressive agenda or the country will collapse and the only option for trans people will be to get out. There isn’t going to be a global socialist revolution. The fascists have autonomous murder drones and we all are constantly surveilled. It’ll mostly just get us all killed.

Sorry, but the last chance to preserve liberal democracy was 2024. That result and the following liberal response to it convinced me that positive change will not happen until the public get more serious about challenging the system than they were during the progressive era. Until the socialists are have so much popularity that the liberals feel the need to compromise with us, they will never take a step in our direction.

The oligarchs hold all the cards because we let them, perfectly playing on liberal hopes and dreams to keep them from actually demanding the policies we need. The make us vote for weak candidates so they can dupe working class conservatives into voting for people who actually acknowledge that shit is broken. If the controlled opposition candidates succeed, then they’ll know our collars still perfectly secure.

Setting the bar at global socialist revolution tells me that you buy their bullshit hook-line-and-sinker; that you would rather hold the left back than push the center forward. Nothing makes me more convinced that there won’t be change than people who refuse to accept what stage of the game we’re in.

If it was too late for voting to make a difference the republicans wouldn’t be trying to take it from you. You shouldn’t need any more motivation to keep them from power at all costs.

There are less socialists than there are MAGAts. This country will kill every last trans person with a smile on its face before it ever has a socialist revolution. It’s not in the realm of reality, whatsoever. Your best option here is total fascism leading to social collapse and hoping magically something socialist comes through the other side. If you’re aware of literally any human history whatsoever you know that’s not what’s going to happen. I appreciate your philosophical position, but it’s not realistically tenable. We all die and the country burns down first. So please, I would love nothing more than for one of you to explain how letting the republicans take total power is better. Like how does that play out in reality? What evidence is there to suggest that whatever you hope happens even could happen? Every republican needs to lose every election at any cost from here on out or we’re all gonna die.
