I think that “space” is the most general term, with “astronomy” and “spaceflight” being subsets.
Examples:
- Interesting data from a telescope? Astronomy and space, but not spaceflight.
- A new GPS satellite is launched? Spaceflight and space, but not astronomy.
- The Perseverance rover drills into a neat rock on Mars? Space, but not really astronomy or spaceflight.
- A new space telescope is launched? Definitely all three.
Thoughts on which would be best to move to?
My votes would lean slightly towards !space@sopuli.xyz and !astronomy@lemmy.world, but I’d be interested to hear other people’s thoughts.

That’s why I oppose decentralisation without committment to making it work (I actually donate to piefed if you want to discuss that).
Yeah a lot of communities were just created by somenone who’s been missing since then and never came back
That’s one issue, but the inability to rely on the server is a whole different set of problems; even if you have semi-regular contributors.
Indeed. That’s why I used Piefed.zip as my main, the monthly updates on !home@lemmy.zip buiild trust
I would go for !space@sopuli.xyz
We have !football@sopuli.xyz over there for years, solid instance, very reactive admin.
