Tesla will stop making the Cybertruck next year, according to CEO Elon Musk, who said on X that the company will use the factory space to build more two-seater Cybercab robotaxis.
The decision to wind down the futuristic, steel-clad EV comes after just a few short years of underwhelming sales. When Musk handed over the first few Cybertrucks in late 2023, he predicted Tesla would sell around 250,000 per year. It was supposed to be such a cornerstone of Tesla’s future that, before construction began, the company talked about its Texas factory as the “Cybertruck factory.” But Tesla has instead sold just tens of thousands — total — over the last three years.
Fuk that Nazi

I almost wanna buy one and turn it into a planter in my yard. Too broke 😭
Nah, keep pumping it out, run the company into the fucken ground.
Why on Earth would someone design a cab to only seat two people? The only time in the last two years that I’ve used a cab, it was to travel with a group.
The best guess I can figure is that an insufferable loser like Elon can’t fathom having two or more people that want to be in the same car as him.
I thought so as well, but then when you think about it… most taxis are kind of just the back seat? Still weird not to make it a three seater bench though. I guess they want you to book two if you want more than 2 people, cha-ching.
Tell me you don’t live in London without saying you don’t live in London.
Guess he also can’t fathom the idea of actually going places with your family.
Just need room for the human shiel–erm, I mean child he’s spending quality time with that particular day.
80% of all taxi rides are 2 or less people.
They also have the model y which can do 5 people.
It feels like there’s a big gap between the cab and the y. Would a self driving 3 (which can fit 5 people and they already have factories to build 90%+ of) not make way more sense?
They built more capacity for the Y as it’s a better selling vehicle, and if you already have a small car for the 1 and 2 people trips, using something bigger with more storage for the 3-5 people trips does make sense. I’m sure 3s will eventually end up in it though even if it’s just a way to balance factory output. Like if the 3 is selling less in a quarter and the factory is idling more, maybe adding some 3s to the robotaxi fleet instead of y’s that quarter begins to make sense?
And the model y can also do two people.
So again, why focus so hard on a two seater?
The Model Y costs substantially more to build, is more complicated to repair and costs more to run per mile.
When only 1/5 rides need that, it’s cheaper to mass produce something else. The plan is to make millions of these.
so they can sell a 2nd cab to the other 2 people
100% agree
When my son was six, he thought it was so cool. “If I drew a cybertruck, that’s how Id draw it.”
My son, 9, now says “A cybertruck looks like a 6 year old drew it.”
I will always love that my kid has more awareness than Elon Musk.
To be honest, I kind of liked how silly it was. Like a goofy low-polygon PS1 car. If the creator of it was just a quirky weirdo and not a Nazi I could definitely abide it as something charmingly ugly and weird
How can a company expect to sell over 750,000 cars in 3 years, sell less than 100,000, and not see horrendously tanking stock values? They must have lost so much money on the cybertrucks.
I’m pretty sure that Tesla stock is basically a money laundering scheme that allows oligarchs to pay him large amounts of money for being the one to openly fuck shit up (eg taking the loss to gain control of twitter, being the face of DOGE, openly buddying up with Trump, seeing what the response would be to giving a Nazi salute on live TV, etc).
I suspect he’s essentially their lightning rod.
Look at what the democrats took from us.
Womp

They still get made?

Elon demonstrates sales projections.
Are you suggesting he did not see that sales drop coming?
He thought sales would be up here…
Alt title:
“Perma-cucked libtard Elon Musk CANCELS Cybertruck!!!”
Wait what? They’re still making these monstrocities?

This is, in all respects, a better and more desirable vehicle than the Cybertruck.
Hm… I wonder if any custom car maker has ever actually built The Homer in real life?
Wonder no more.
