I saw something that said “SEO is now AEO” which I assumed meant “AI (something that starts with E) Optimization”

If people are going to ChatGPT or Claude for what they used to go to Google for it makes sense to reduce ads there.

They actually aren’t. It’s like less than 10% of their revenue each year.

I’m wrong. User below is correct or close to it.

Sorry, boss, but that’s just incorrect.

(Edit: infographic is referencing the10%, not that ad rev is down, but that’s part is also not true).

Well I don’t think I have to since their Quarterly numbers can? 63.5B out of 127.5B is search advertisement revenue. Pixel falls under platforms, subscriptions, services and devices and made up a PORTION of $14B of revenue. The difference to get to 127.5 is Google Cloud which doubled from 15B to 30B quarterly revenue between 2025 and 2026.

Let’s be exceedingly generous and say Pixel devices accounts for 50% of that $14B in revenue, so $7B to Search Advertisement’s $62.5B. That’s that’s nearly 10X. Android OS proper (not the device hardware) is rightly considered part of ad revenue as the OS is “free”

Edit: mixed up and didn’t reference “Search” ads. Fixed. They don’t really break out “Android” Ads. But the “Other” in the “Google Search & Other” statement may be carrying a lot of weight. https://lemmy.world/u/MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip I may have overly focused on Android “devices” in my response - if you meant Android ad revenu vs. search revenue, that’s tougher to pull out for sure. Smugness has been rescinded! Have a lovely day.

If a value can plunge 500 billion then it never had that value at all. I think the stock market has been manipulated so badly that it doesn’t work for anyone anymore (except the uber-rich of course).

Just to add some context: it’s a HUGE one day drop, but it just sets the stock price back 6 months.

The AI stock maket craze has been completely ludicrous in the past year.

Laugh it up folks. This bubble is going to tank America’s economy first, then the rest of the world.

Lemmy: “The stock market is imaginary, the ‘economy’ is only for the rich, has nothing to do with me. LOL, Google bad!”

Half a trillion dollars just when “poof”, and y’all yuckin’ it up. 🙄 This may be the event that kicks off the fall, the market equivalent of an old-school bank run. “If GOOGLE can fall that hard?! Get ALL the money out of AI!!!” AI is most of America’s GDP and stock market gains. Our economic health has been illusory for 2 years. Hold onto your butts.

(If you think I sound like Chicken Little, have a good look at the Buffett Index, past and present.)

We all know the money is fake, don’t try to portray skeptics of all this as the ones not taking this seriously, that is why we were skeptics.

I’d rather collapse and change than continuing this trend. People need to be godsmacked. There will be casualties but there would be casualties without change, too, and I’d rather change.

This is a nothing burger. The price dip will recover and they will still be a solid stock to hold.

Explain how they recover with no way to make investments back. Even Altman was surprised the new $200 tier was a money pit. Now stack the tens of millions of free users sucking them dry every day. This makes the dotcom bubble look like a practice run.

My god, I have never seen such bullshit circular financing. AI is unsupportable in its current form and investors are just now waking up. But if y’all think trillions of dollars of stock value, loans and hardware can simply go ‘poof’ without it affecting you, continue to believe so. But in the end, you’ll be sitting right next to me at the bottom of the blast crater.

They didnt lose money here. The price dipped because they didnt make as much profit as expected.
